27% of Cohasset High students who have drank alcohol began drinking between age 13 and 15(Wellness Survey, 2023). Young people who begin drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin drinking at age 21.
 
60% of Cohasset High students said they have not had a discussion with their parent/caregiver about drinking expectations (Wellness Survey, 2023).
 
12.5% of Cohasset High students said some drinking with friends is allowed if a parent is present and 17.4% said drinking is allowed without a parent present as long as the student does not drive afterwards. (Wellness Survey, 2023).

Join the Our Safe Home Directory

Safe Harbor Cohasset Coalition’s “Our Safe Home” campaign is about addressing the issues of youth access to alcohol in the community, which involves parents, guardians, merchants, and youth themselves.

We recognize that we cannot supervise our teens 24/7, nor can we always control the choices they make. However, this is a pledge that we will do our part to discourage underage drinking and we will do our best to help each other support and monitor our teens.

When our children are younger we are so involved with who their friend’s parents are and with checking in to make sure that a parent will be home if they are attending a friend’s house. As our children get older, our schedules get busier, and we tend to lose those ties. This directory would create a network of parents who took the pledge to provide a safe, substance-free home, and give the ability to check-in with a parent prior to your child going over to their home.

Parents & Local Merchants, the Our Safe Home Directory is an opportunity to share your commitment to provide a safe space for youth in our community. If you would like to be listed in the Our Safe Home Directory as an individual, a family, or a business, please complete the form.

What are you committing to by signing this pledge?

Parents pledge their commitment in providing a fun, safe, and substance-free environment for their children and peers.

Merchants pledge to comply by following the law and regulations, to not sell alcohol to young people under 21 years old.

You do not have to have school age kids to participate, it’s simply a message of support.

This is not a pledge for adults to not have alcohol in the home-it’s a pledge to not provide to minors.

You don’t have to share more than your name if you don’t want to, to participate.
