Hello Cohasset! We are Laila Al Rashid & Sam Kearney, the 2022-23 youth authors of bi-weekly articles that will be featured in the Cohasset Anchor. These articles provide us an opportunity to emphasize the incredible impact that the members of the Safe Harbor Youth Ambassadors program are making in our community. Once a month, we will also highlight a Youth Ambassador who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and commitment to our community. Please stay tuned!
Laila Al Rashid
Hello everyone! I’m Laila Al Rashid, a Youth Leader in the Youth Ambassadors program. As a leader in the program since the beginning of my sophomore year, I have participated and led events such as Substance Use: Sharing Our Story, Sticker Shock, Our Minds Matter, and more. I currently also work on scientific research through CSCR in which I work to protect local ecology, and I hope to transfer my passion for preserving the environment towards focusing on the impacts of substance use on nature. Further, I appreciate all of the invaluable opportunities that participating in the Youth Ambassadors program has provided me, and I hope to apply the skills I have learned from these experiences to improve our community. After high school, I look forward to pursuing higher education in biological sciences and utilizing my experience with Safe Harbor to encourage better decision making towards substance use and its impact on both our physical health and the environment.
Sam Kearney
Hi Everyone! My name is Samantha Kearney, and I am a Youth Leader in the Safe Harbor Youth Ambassador program. I joined the program in eighth grade at Cohasset High school. I have participated in events such as Sticker Shock, Cohasset Minds Matter, and Samantha Skunk. I am currently a junior at Cohasset High School and play three high school sports. I hope to encourage both students and athletes to find healthy activities, that allow them to destress, and encourage better decisions when it comes to substance abuse, in order to better both physical and mental health. After high school, I hope to use my experiences from safe harbor in order to continue to advocate for myself and my peers.
